Front Differential Service
The differential spins both the left and right wheels, but lets them rotate at different speeds so that the vehicle can make turns. The differential is located between the two wheels, and is attached to each wheel by an axle shaft. Differential fluid provides lubrication to gears, bearings, shafts and other internal components. Heat, pressure and friction can slowly breakdown the additives in the differential fluid. In addition, small particles of metal and clutch material may come off as they wear and these particles can mix with the fluid. Fluids can also become contaminated with water.
Frequency:
- Every 12,000 to 50,000 miles.
Function:
- Replacing front differential fluid for protection
Benefit:
- Extend the life of the unit
Rear Differential Service
The rear differential (commonly referred to as the rear end) fluid or grease should be checked during each routine oil change and topped off as needed. Drain and flush the rear end fluid periodically to remove any metal filings that have normally accumulated in the differential housing. Replace the differential cover gasket.
Frequency:
- Every 12,000 to 50,000 miles.
Function:
- Replacing rear differential fluid for maximum protection.
Benefit:
- Extend the life of the unit
LS 2000
Using this will help prolong the life of the rear end and ensure quiet operation of the gears.
Frequency:
- As needed.
Function:
- Limited slip differential additive
Benefit:
- Gives added protection for certain differentials.
